Mother's Day: More Than Just a Card (And a Great Excuse for Some Self-Care!)

Happy (almost) Mother’s Day! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-time mum, we know this day can bring a mix of excitement and, let’s face it, a bit of chaos. After all, it’s Clock Change Weekend! That means we lose an hour of sleep—yep, the same weekend we’re supposed to be celebrating ourselves. But don’t worry, mama, we’ve got your back. We’re here to remind you that even if you’re running on less sleep, you’re still a rockstar.

So, what’s Mother’s Day really about? Sure, it’s a chance for the family to shower you with love (and maybe a cup of hot tea), but it’s also a beautiful opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate YOU. And we’re here to help you make the most of it!

Fun Facts About Mother’s Day You May Not Know

  • Mother’s Day is the third most popular holiday in the world (after Christmas and Easter). So, if you’re feeling the love this Sunday, know it’s a worldwide celebration of mums everywhere!

  • The first Mother’s Day wasn’t about flowers! It was about encouraging people to appreciate their mothers in a more heartfelt way. So, feel free to skip the flowers and go straight for some you time this year.

  • Mother’s Day is celebrated on different dates around the world. So if your international friends and family are posting celebrations at different times, that’s why! But hey, we’re all in it together

Self-Care Ideas for Busy Mums

Let’s be honest: as a busy mum, self-care often feels like a luxury you don’t have time for. But guess what? It doesn’t have to be a spa day (although if you can make that happen, we fully support it).

Here are a few quick, easy ways to show yourself some love:

  • Take a 10-Minute Solo Walk: Just a short walk can work wonders for your mood. Leave the stroller at home, pop in your earbuds, and take a breather. Bonus points if you treat yourself to a quiet coffee afterwards (bonus points for warm coffee!).

  • Call a Friend: We know, life gets busy. But calling a fellow mum can be an instant mood booster. Share a laugh, vent for five minutes, and remember you’re not alone in this.

  • Try a Quick Meditation: Even five minutes of deep breathing can be a game-changer. Apps like Headspace or Calm are perfect for when you need a mini escape.

  • Indulge in a Quiet Bath: Light a candle, put on your favorite music, and let the warm water melt away the stress. It's the little things, right?

Navigating the Lost Hour of Sleep

Did we mention we lose an hour of sleep this weekend? Yep, that lovely daylight saving time is here, and it’s not just a clock change—it’s family-wide. If you're already running on empty, you might be feeling that extra hour of lost sleep in a major way.

But here’s the thing: You don’t have to do it all. Give yourself permission to skip the laundry, take a break from the never-ending to-do list, and prioritize your own well-being.

And remember, it's okay to ask for help. Whether that’s a partner, a friend, or even a neighbour, there's no shame in getting some support, especially when you’re juggling both the clock change and your little ones!

A Great Gift: The Gift of You

This Mother’s Day, the best gift you can give yourself is permission to rest, recharge, and reconnect with who you are—outside of being a mum. Remember: you’re allowed to be more than a mum, you’re allowed to need time for yourself, and you are worthy of that time.

For me personally, my ideal Mother’s Day gift has always been a night alone in a Premier Inn. I wouldn’t care if it was the one on the M4—I’d be thrilled with just one night in a bed all to myself. No snoring husband, no sweaty 4-year-old, and no wriggly 2-year-old crawling in (yes, they sleep in our bed most nights). And here's the best part: I'm actually a trained sleep consultant! I mean, do as I say, not as I do, right? (If you can relate, I'm sending you all the virtual high-fives).

But, here's the kicker—my ideal Mother’s Day gift has yet to be granted. And, a close second would be… Botox. (I’m sure I’m not alone in that one, right?) Because let’s face it, a little refresh would go a long way after all the sleepless nights, toddler tantrums, and endless loads of laundry.

If a mini-break or Botox isn’t in the cards this year, though, we’ve got something else for you: a little gift from us. To support your well-being, we’re offering 10% off any of our upcoming courses. Use the code MOTHERSDAY10 at checkout to get the discount, valid until 14. April. Whether it’s our Flourish Course for your self-esteem or the Understanding Emotions Workshop for managing toddler tantrums, we’ve got your back.

Finally, Give Yourself Grace

Motherhood is no joke. And while Mother’s Day is a celebration of all the hard work and love you pour into your family, don’t forget that it’s about you too. So go ahead—treat yourself, take a nap, sip that hot coffee (or cheeky glass of wine), or just enjoy the moment. You’re doing an amazing job, and we see you!

Happy Mother’s Day, from all of us here at Her Story & Co. You’ve got this!
